My allergies have been playing up – runny nose, itchy eyes. Aaargh-Chew!

Why do we have allergies? Because our body’s own immune system is attacking itself. Our body sees itself as a threat and attacks itself.

Tragically allergies can even kill you. Talk about the worst case of “friendly fire”!

If only our body could be kinder to itself.

But what if we attack ourselves, not just in our allergies, but in all of life?

But why would we do that?

Because we know who we really are. We know the worst version of us.

But what can we do? We can’t just ignore who we really are!

That’s why we need Jesus to lift us up. We need Jesus to forgive us. We can’t do this ourselves.

In the Bible, Jesus says, “Come to me … for I am gentle … and you will find rest for your souls.”

We need Jesus to be the kinder version to ourselves that we can never be.

The next time you attack yourself, come to Jesus. He will be the rest that we can never find in ourselves or anywhere else.

Matthew 11:28-30
